Scott Howard's report

35+ race.  Starts pretty fast, and proceeds to get faster.  Tim B. well positioned in the front, Peter up there near him, and me making sure no attacks come from the back.  Spent first 1/2 of the race trying out different lines, finally get on the wheel of a guy who normally rides pro 1-2 and figure out...

West Branch Classic - Mt Pleasant
Jun/17/2011

Women's Pro, 1,2,3 Road Race

The race started out at a nice pace. All the girls worked together in a pace line to get a few miles underway. A few times Susan was out in front working and I was taking note. At about mile 18, she was working again but trying to get off the front. Einstein was on her wheel at that point and was not letting it happen. So, I rode up to get Susan off...

Frankenmuth 2011 - News from the Peloton
Jun/03/2011

The TOF on a wet and windy day!

By Hal BeVier
The Tour of Frankenmuth is a great race that has been around for a while. They have put together a nice, safe course and without hard conditions and hard racers---it boils down to a flatlander’s race.

The 35 plus Masters Team joined forces with a couple of old dawgs that came to represent “Old School.” Steve Andriese (the secret weapon) and me (bird legs Bev) teamed up with...

Never Give up the fight!
May/16/2011

We met at 5:15 am with everyone prepared and stoked to do some damage at the “Tour of Washtenaw!” We hammered out a legitimate game plan and had a strong squad ready to throw down. Off and down the road we go…First stop “Grayling”---relaxed and ready, we stopped in Grayling to top off the java and petro. "BLOW #1" We were stranded in Grayling with a dead battery at 6:30...

Mud, Sweat and Hagerty!
May/11/2011

Months ago, when the weather was dreary and the wind whipped piles of snow along the cold and icy streets, they rode in caves. Men and women, pedaling with ferocity and with visions of phantoms just out of reach, perpetually chasing but moving nowhere, rode in preparation for this day. The 2011 Mud, Sweat and Beers had a...

A Big Weekend for Hagerty Cycling!
Apr/11/2011

Hagerty Cycling Team stretched out around the bend on our spring ride.

This weekend was our spring team meeting. It was a great chance for the veterans of the team to meet the new team members. We talked about all of the great racing and training opportunities to be had in 2011 and much more. We then went for a fun team ride in Leelanau County.

Two of our new team members where absent, but actually racing in a collegiate race at...

Everything is Coming Up Cherries
Sep/23/2010

Hard to believe yet another racing season has slid on by, but on August 27-29, 2010 Hagerty competed in its last road races of the year.  Fittingly enough, it was the team’s home town event, the Cherry-Roubaix.  Now in its third year, the Cherry-Roubaix has gotten bigger and better with every edition,  This year, taking advantage of the beautiful late summer weather, the town turned out for three days of fun-filled racing.  It was a fitting end...

All the other teams were rushing out to buy steel-cut oatmeal and compression stockings after the Hagerty men’s masters 45+ team absolutely dominated at the Tour de Gaslight Criterium in East Grand Rapids on Sunday August 22.  Hagerty’s Steve Andriese and Hal BeVier got away early and stayed away, taking first and second place, and crowning Steve as the 2010 Michigan Masters 45+ Criterium State Champion!

July Retrospective: The Rest of us

Welcome to our first retrospective on Hagerty racing for the month of July, 2010.  Well, from the title there is probably not much doubt as to who our primary featured subject is going to be, but before we get to the Demon of Dimondale let’s first mention the accomplishments of a few other Hagerty racers:

I First and foremost, Rachel Decker: at the Maillot Jaune road race in Fenton, Michigan on July 24, Rachel took 3rd place...

Hagerty Wins Four State Championships in da UP, eh?
Jun/29/2010

That’s right.  Not one, not two, but FOUR 2010 state road racing championships for the Hagerty Cycling Team, won by Lauri Brockmiller, Melissa Fritz, Craig Webb, and Lars Welton.  That, and so many other podium finishes, you’re going to want to grab a cup of coffee, sit in a comfy chair and spend a little time on this one.

As the loyal readers of these postings (all four of you) will have noticed by now, for the vast majority of our...

Hagerty Freshmen Strike Oil at Le Tour de Mount Pleasant
Jun/16/2010

Those folks at BP down in the Gulf of Mexico could learn a thing or two from the first-year members of the Hagerty Cycling Team, who had no trouble at all down in the Isabella County oil patch during the 2nd Annual Le Tour de Mount Pleasant.  The Hagerty “beginners” were prominent in both Saturday’s Criterium, held in downtown Mount Pleasant, and Sunday’s 46 mile road race.

On Saturday, Barb Beauregard, already one of Michigan’s fastest women on skis,...

A flat course, calm wind, sunny skies, and perfect temperatures made for an ideal day of racing at the Tour of Frankenmuth on Saturday, May 29, 2010.

Melissa “Freeway” Fritz “wurde ein Team von einer” (“was a team of one”) in the women’s Cat 4 race, where she was the sole Hagerty racer in a field of 27 women.  But for Melissa, not having teammates present is apparently “nichts zu kümmern” (“nothing to...

West Branch Classic - Road Race
May/23/2010

The Hagerty Cycling Team again made its presence known at the West Branch Road Race on Saturday, May 22, 2010.  Hats off to the organizers for putting on a fantastic race.  West Branch is a VERY challenging hilly course, featuring over 1,100 feet of climbing on every 22 mile lap with numerous climbs of one-half to three-quarter mile at a 3-5% grade.  One particular brute of a hill at the end of each lap, and thus leading up...

Tour of Kensington Valley 2010
May/12/2010

Not even some of the most challenging weather Mother Nature Valley on May 8.  Cold?  Rain?  Crosswinds gusting from 35 to 55 mph?  Hey, we’re from northern Michigan.  We call that kind of weather “summer.”

On a day like this most kids his age would be tucked inside playing video games, but Hagerty junior Sean Brownell braved the elements to fight it out with the Men’s Junior 13-14 peloton.

Over in the Men’s Cat 5 race, and at the opposite end of the age spectrum, Alexander Yockey duked it out in his...

Cone Azalia 2010
May/12/2010

Under deceivingly sunny skies and in the teeth of a cold north wind, Cone Azalia once again showed that she is a harsh, cold mistress as she decimated many of the racers who braved the Mother’s Day gods to reach for cycling glory.  The race is called the “Paris-Roubaix of the Midwest,” and that isn’t because Milan, Michigan looks anything like Paris (or Roubaix, for that matter).  Cone Azalia features dirt roads with sand, gravel, hard pack, and gravel...

Mud, Sweat and Beers
May/11/2010

Hagerty racers dominated the first ever Mud, Sweat and Beers mountain bike race held at Mt. Holiday.  Although the Hagerty team is training hard for the road racing season,  t's clear from the MSB results that we have immense talent on the trails.

Johanna Schmidt won the expert women's category, coming in 26th overall out of nearly 300  total racers in the "Stout" 20-mile race.  Third place for the expert women went to Melissa Fritz.

Barry-Roubaix 2010

Cone Azalia

Sunday, May 3, 2009 Cone Azalia

Milan Michigan was the place to be on Sunday, May 3. The Hagerty Cycling Team had a great showing of riders and did really well. The course had 4 miles of dirt  and sections of "gravel." I'd say the "gravel" was more like shards of broken up chunks of rocks over large unseen potholes, but that's just me and probably too long of a course description. But despite the course condition, Hagerty had some top...

Barry-Roubaix March 28, 2009:

The first Michigan race for some of our Hagerty riders was the Barry-Roubaix. This was a 31/62 mile race on dirt, gravel, and paved roads which had people riding road, mountain and cyclocross bikes. It was a chilly morning but the sun showed it's face and the day turned into a great racing day.

In our Men's Pro/Elite 62 Mile division we saw Craig Webb finish in the top 10. Craig chose to race on his mountain...
