2012 Criterium State ChampionshipsJul/31/2012
Hagerty went to Milford in force this weekend as the Blue Train gears up for the Cherry-Roubaix.
As a part of the build-up for our home race and the Road Race State Championship, a sizeable delegation of the squad were sent south to contest the Crit Championships. With riders in nearly every category, Hagerty was well represented and the results came up accordingly.
The CAT 5 squad came out in control and sent Ethan Koronka to win both primes...
Le Tour de Mount Pleasant: Hagerty Turns Up The HeatJun/14/2012
One of the biggest weekends of the year has come and gone, with Hagerty Cycling putting in solid results all over the board. From the opening Prologue to the Road Race on Sunday, Hagerty riders threw down rockin’ times and solid races.
The 4.2 mile Prologue kicked off the contest over a tough, tight and blistering power effort. The tight turns and constant accelerations needed coming off corners suited the likes of powerhouses Hal...
Hanson Hills ChallengeJun/06/2012
With the Hanson Hills Challenge just a few miles away, a fair few of the Hagerty team from Saturday’s road race brought out the fat tires on Sunday. On tired legs, Lars Welton put the hammer down from the gun and tried to blow up the race along the super-fast two track that led to the singletrack. Here’s Lar’s take, as only Lars can tell it:
You could hear their brakes squeakin'. Maybe this Strategy will work, I let...
West Branch Classic - The Race That LivedJun/05/2012
Two weeks before the race, West Branch wasn’t going to happen. Low sponsors and registrants meant that the race was on a knife’s edge, and registration quotas would push it either way as the deadline drew near. A very concerted and strong showing from Hagerty Cycling in no doubt played a part in the success of the race, and a flood of blue made the trip for both the road race and criterium.
2012 Tour de Frankenmuth Jun/04/2012
Tour de Frankenmuth- Hagerty’s Monster Flatland Weekend
The Tour of Frankenmuth is a flat test of speed and precision for all racers, but a special test for the more climbing-oriented Hagerty team. Where hills and descents often break up the pack in Leelanau and on the Old Mission Peninsula, it is almost always tactics and timing that make the difference at Frankenmuth.
The indomitable Don...

Hagerty Impresses at Mud, Sweat and Beers
Mud, Sweat and Beers is a very big deal for Hagerty Cycling. It’s our first chance to law down the law, and the first race of the year over trail systems in our own backyard. Saturday’s Cinco de Mayo version was a massive showing for the Blue and White, including the grand debut of the new Hagerty-TOLaw U-25 team.
Hagerty-TOLaw U-25’s magnificent riders have made starts in the...

Never Give up the fight!May/16/2011
We met at 5:15 am with everyone prepared and stoked to do some damage at the “Tour of Washtenaw!” We hammered out a legitimate game plan and had a strong squad ready to throw down. Off and down the road we go…First stop “Grayling”---relaxed and ready, we stopped in Grayling to top off the java and petro. "BLOW #1" We were stranded in Grayling with a dead battery at 6:30...

Months ago, when the weather was dreary and the wind whipped piles of snow along the cold and icy streets, they rode in caves. Men and women, pedaling with ferocity and with visions of phantoms just out of reach, perpetually chasing but moving nowhere, rode in preparation for this day. The 2011 Mud, Sweat and Beers had a...

Get the bike on the pavement, for the call has come, Wheeled Ones! The 2011 Hagerty Racing Team is ready for another spectacular year of racing, winning and fun. There are many new faces and, of course, many familiar ones as well. The team is well-rounded and well-represented at all ages and at all levels, making the squad a threat in every competition in the state.
Everything is Coming Up CherriesSep/23/2010
Hard to believe yet another racing season has slid on by, but on August 27-29, 2010 Hagerty competed in its last road races of the year. Fittingly enough, it was the team’s home town event, the Cherry-Roubaix. Now in its third year, the Cherry-Roubaix has gotten bigger and better with every edition, This year, taking advantage of the beautiful late summer weather, the town turned out for three days of fun-filled racing. It was a fitting end...

STEVE ANDRIESE REIGNS SUPREME AS THE MICHIGAN MASTERS 45+ CRITERIUM STATE CHAMPION
All the other teams were rushing out to buy steel-cut oatmeal and compression stockings after the Hagerty men’s masters 45+ team absolutely dominated at the Tour de Gaslight Criterium in East Grand Rapids on Sunday August 22. Hagerty’s Steve Andriese and Hal BeVier got away early and stayed away, taking first and second place, and crowning Steve as the 2010 Michigan Masters 45+ Criterium State Champion!

July Retrospective: The Rest of us
Welcome to our first retrospective on Hagerty racing for the month of July, 2010. Well, from the title there is probably not much doubt as to who our primary featured subject is going to be, but before we get to the Demon of Dimondale let’s first mention the accomplishments of a few other Hagerty racers:

Hagerty Freshmen Strike Oil at Le Tour de Mount PleasantJun/16/2010
Those folks at BP down in the Gulf of Mexico could learn a thing or two from the first-year members of the Hagerty Cycling Team, who had no trouble at all down in the Isabella County oil patch during the 2nd Annual Le Tour de Mount Pleasant. The Hagerty “beginners” were prominent in both Saturday’s Criterium, held in downtown Mount Pleasant, and Sunday’s 46 mile road race.

A flat course, calm wind, sunny skies, and perfect temperatures made for an ideal day of racing at the Tour of Frankenmuth on Saturday, May 29, 2010.
West Branch Classic - Road RaceMay/23/2010
The Hagerty Cycling Team again made its presence known at the West Branch Road Race on Saturday, May 22, 2010. Hats off to the organizers for putting on a fantastic race. West Branch is a VERY challenging hilly course, featuring over 1,100 feet of climbing on every 22 mile lap with numerous climbs of one-half to three-quarter mile at a 3-5% grade. One particular brute of a hill at the end of each lap, and thus leading up...
West Branch Classic - CritMay/23/2010
Criterium: kr -t r -um, n. A bicycle race held by racing laps on a short closed course at high, intense speed. – v.i. To deliberately place one’s self in an intensely hypoxic state, generally while ripping off one’s own legs.
Fresh off the previous day’s tough road race, the Hagerty Cycling Team again did battle at the West Branch Criterium on Sunday May 23, 2010, and do we have some really amazing things to tell you about the Hagerty women....
Tour of Kensington Valley 2010May/12/2010
Not even some of the most challenging weather Mother Nature Valley on May 8. Cold? Rain? Crosswinds gusting from 35 to 55 mph? Hey, we’re from northern Michigan. We call that kind of weather “summer.”
On a day like this most kids his age would be tucked inside playing video games, but Hagerty junior Sean Brownell braved the elements to fight it out with the Men’s Junior 13-14 peloton.
Over in the Men’s Cat 5 race, and at the opposite end of the age spectrum, Alexander Yockey duked it out in his...
Cone Azalia 2010May/12/2010
Under deceivingly sunny skies and in the teeth of a cold north wind, Cone Azalia once again showed that she is a harsh, cold mistress as she decimated many of the racers who braved the Mother’s Day gods to reach for cycling glory. The race is called the “Paris-Roubaix of the Midwest,” and that isn’t because Milan, Michigan looks anything like Paris (or Roubaix, for that matter). Cone Azalia features dirt roads with sand, gravel, hard pack, and gravel...
Mud, Sweat and BeersMay/11/2010
Hagerty racers dominated the first ever Mud, Sweat and Beers mountain bike race held at Mt. Holiday. Although the Hagerty team is training hard for the road racing season, t's clear from the MSB results that we have immense talent on the trails.
Johanna Schmidt won the expert women's category, coming in 26th overall out of nearly 300 total racers in the "Stout" 20-mile race. Third place for the expert women went to Melissa Fritz.

Hagerty Gears up for 2010!Apr/05/2010
Well it's 2010 and the race season has already started. The team has been out on the road in force putting in our training miles and already have a few races under our belts. Congrats to all who completed in the Barry-Roubaix and Fisk Knob Time Trial and other early season races. Below you will find a list of results and some quick updates on the events.
Fisk Knob Time Trial 2010Mar/20/2010
This year we had six members participate in the Fisk Knob Time Trial in Kent County, a little north of GR. The 30th annual FKTT had fabulous sunny weather, unlike last year's snowy conditions.
Barry-Roubaix 2010Mar/01/2010
The second annual Barry-Roubaix race attracted more than 700 competitors in the Beginner (23 mile), Sport/Expert (35 mile) and Elite (65 mile) categories. The varied terrian and diversity of bikes is what makes it so much fun. The course covers two tracks, gravel and paved roads and has 2200 feet of climbing on the 35-mile loop. Cyclocross, mountain, road, tandems, fixies and singlespeed bikes are all fair game!
Thanks to all of our team members, sponsors and fans for a great2009 racing season!
Jan/15/2010
It has been a while since our last update, so we decided to do a year end recap and summarize the fall racing season.
Wow! 2009 proved to be a stellar year for Hagerty Cycling. The race calendar was full of great events and Team Hagerty represented as many of them as possible. Some fall highlights include the Cherry-Roubaix two-day stage race, many great criteriums, cyclocross and mountain bike events.

The unstoppable Hagerty Masters Team strike again at the West Branch Classic. These guys are kicking butt all over Michigan and this past weekend's race in West Branch was no exception.
According to reports from the peloton, the Hagerty Masters went big from the start of the race launching repeated attacks until one of the break aways held. This one just happened to include Dan Hofstra who used his superior climbing abilities...
